- Check the obvious first: a back door, a garage side door, a roommate with a key. It happens.

- Have ID ready, or a lease, a utility bill or a neighbor who can vouch for you. We're required to check.
- Don't try to force the door or the window. The damage costs more than the lockout.
Damage-free entry, every time we can
Almost every residential lock in San Diego can be picked or bypassed, which leaves the door and the lock exactly as they were. That's always our first approach. Drilling is a last resort for locks that are broken or genuinely high security, and if it's ever necessary we tell you first and replace the lock on the same visit. If a locksmith goes straight for a drill on a normal front door, find another locksmith.
After you're back inside
If the keys were inside, you're done. If they were lost, we recommend a rekey on the spot, especially if anything on the ring tied them to your address. And if this is your second lockout, a keypad lock means it's your last one. We can do any of that on the same visit, and you'll know the cost before we start.

How fast can you get to a house lockout?
It depends on where you are and where the van is. We give you a realistic window when you call, not a made-up number. The beach communities and Point Loma are usually quickest from our Ocean Beach base.
Do I need ID to get let into my own house?
Yes. A licensed locksmith is required to confirm you're authorized to be there. If your ID shows a different address, a lease, a piece of mail or a neighbor will do.
Will you damage my lock?
Almost never. We pick or bypass first. Drilling is a last resort we discuss with you before doing, and we replace the lock on the same visit if it comes to that.
Can you open an apartment if the manager isn't available?
Yes, as long as you can show you live there. Some buildings require us to notify management, and we'll handle that.
