Locksmith repairing an original mortise lock on a Craftsman home in Mission Hills, San Diego
Mission Hills front doors often have original 1920s hardware. We service it rather than replace it.

What we see in Old Town & Mission Hills

Mission Hills, along Fort Stockton Drive, Sunset Boulevard and the streets around Pioneer Park, is full of Craftsman, Spanish Revival and Mission Revival homes from the 1910s through the 1930s. Many still have original mortise locks, glass knobs and skeleton-key hardware. Those locks can usually be repaired, rekeyed and kept, and we'd rather do that than bore a new hole in a hundred-year-old door. Where you want real security, we add a modern deadbolt matched to the finish of the original hardware so it looks like it belongs.

Old Town is a different job. The restaurants, shops and offices around the State Historic Park, along San Diego Avenue and up Congress Street see heavy foot traffic and heavy staff turnover, and we handle rekeys, storefront locks, exit devices and keying systems for them, along with the businesses along Morena Boulevard and the Washington Street and Goldfinch Street shops in Mission Hills.

Car lockouts here cluster around the State Historic Park lots, Presidio Park, and the Old Town Transit Center, where people park all day for the trolley and the Coaster. We're a few minutes away via I-8 from Ocean Beach.

Old Town & Mission Hills locksmith questions

Can you rekey an antique mortise lock, or do I have to replace it?

Most vintage mortise locks can be serviced and rekeyed, and we'll try that first. If the mechanism is worn out we can often source a compatible replacement that fits the existing mortise pocket, so the door isn't cut.

Can I add a deadbolt to a historic front door without ruining it?

Yes. We bore cleanly, match the finish of the existing hardware and place the deadbolt so it doesn't interfere with the original lock. Done right, it looks original.

Do you serve businesses in Old Town State Historic Park?

Yes, along with the restaurants and shops on San Diego Avenue, Congress Street and around the Transit Center.
