How a master key system is structured
Think of it as levels. At the top is the master key, which opens everything. Below it are sub-master keys, each opening a group of doors: one floor, one department, one building. At the bottom are change keys, each opening a single door or a small set. A manager carries one sub-master instead of a ring of twelve keys; a staff member carries one change key that opens exactly what they need. When someone leaves, only the doors their key opened get rekeyed.
Restricted keys: the other half
A master key system on a standard keyway can be copied at any hardware store, which means you never really know how many keys exist. A restricted keyway fixes that: the blanks aren't sold to the public, and we only cut copies with the signed authorization of the person you designate. For any business with staff turnover, restricted keys are the part of the system that keeps it a system.

Usually not. Most commercial cylinders can be re-pinned into a master system. We'll tell you during the survey if any door needs different hardware.
How much does a master key system cost?
A small office with under a dozen doors typically starts around $300 when we can reuse the existing locks. Larger systems, restricted keyways and new hardware add to it. The survey gives you one clear number.
What happens when a manager loses the sub-master?
We rekey only the doors that sub-master opened and cut a new one. With a restricted keyway, you also know nobody copied it beforehand.
Can you master key a building for an HOA?
